UK-based arts historian and author Roger Neill has written a book about the Simonsen family – a remarkable Melbourne musical dynasty that produced a string of professional singers across several generations, straddling both sides of the Tasman.
Their pioneering opera company toured around the world, visiting New Zealand in the late 19th century.
Two of family became international opera stars, including granddaughter Frances Alda (the 'Nellie Melba of New Zealand').
