Christchurch Symphony Orchestra is presenting two concerts based on the book Matariki Around the World by Rangi Matamua and Miriama Kamo, which explores the Matariki star cluster and the different cultures that celebrate it.
Juanita Hepi is Creative Director for the project and spoke with David Morriss about the concerts and the power of storytelling.
She says, "I think it's important now more than ever to find places of commonality... It's one of the things I love about art but it's also one of the things I love about Matariki, is that these are global phenomena that many, many different cultures share. And to think that we are all looking at the same sky really puts that into perspective."
