Janet Jennings' album The Earth Child, released in January this year, commemorates the centenary of Katherine Mansfield's death in 1923.
The Waikato-based composer has set five poems by Mansfield, which are performed by soprano Natasha Te Rupe-Wilson and pianist Somi Kim. The album also includes Jennings' settings of Ursula Bethell's poems about gardens, as well as a selection of songs by Gabriel Fauré.
David Morriss caught up with Janet to talk about her approach to setting poems to music that weren't originally intended for that purpose.
