Young UK French horn player Ben Goldscheider is a star on the rise who’s very much living his dream to become a soloist and increase the popularity of the horn.
He’s given recital and concerto performances at some of the world’s major concert halls across Europe and collaborated with the likes of Daniel Barenboim, Martha Argerich and Stephen Hough.
He was described by the Huffington Post as 'a musical Bear Grylls' for his BBC Young Musician Competition performance of Esa-Pekka Salonen's virtuosic Horn Etude, 'fearlessly leaping through its dangerous terrain'.
Commissioning and premiering new works for the horn is also an important part of Ben’s work.
Ben is one of the guest artists in this year’s At the World’s Edge Festival in Queenstown Lakes in October, where he’ll be performing chamber music including two new commissions by New Zealand composers Victoria Kelly and Georgina Palmer.
"One of the great things about this festival and what [Co-Artistic Director] Ben Baker is doing, is connecting people internationally. For me to come all the way from England to meet up with a New Zealand composer, work with her, premiere her piece in New Zealand and then take that piece to the rest of the world – I think cultural exchange is one of the best parts of globalism. And I'm looking forward to benefitting from that."
