Greg Hill, former French horn player with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, started his career with the orchestra in the early 1970s.
The first concert he played in with the orchestra contained a Bruckner symphony (the Ninth). And at his final concert with the NZSO in 2018, there was also a Bruckner symphony on the programme (the Fourth).
So he likes to go ‘full circle’. It turns out that applies to more than just his musical life.
Greg Hill’s big retirement dream was to go on a trip from his home in Wellington to the exact opposite side of the world, and to travel there – as much as he could – by train.

He talked with fellow train enthusiast, RNZ Concert’s Bryan Crump, about his travels to the opposite side of the world with partner Anne, and the book that he’s written to document the journey.
