The mellow sound of a solo cello is hard to beat. Multiply that by eight, and you're in for a sonic delight!
The cello section of Auckland Youth Orchestra gets its moment in the spotlight in the orchestra's next concert, with a performance of 'Symphony for Eight' by American composer Philip Glass. It's a re-working for cello octet of the third movement of Glass' Symphony No 3.
Two of the AYO's cellists, Alimaifiti Ono and section leader Damon Herlihy-O'Brien, talk with Bryan Crump about playing the work, their early memories of classical music, and what they love about the cello.
