Ross McLeod doesn't know that much about opera, but he knows a good storyline.
One which involves a prince, magic, trials of endurance, a goofy sidekick, a beautiful princess and a jealous mother - what's not to like?
McLeod and his theatre company, Apocalypse Lounge Room Break, are once again running a mystery game in Hamilton Gardens, loosely based on the story of Mozart's opera.

The aim of the game, should you wish to partake, is to help Prince Tamino overcome puzzles and challenges as you venture through the Picturesque Garden, one part of the wider Hamilton Gardens reserve.

McLeod told RNZ Concert host Bryan Crump he's been running the mystery games in the garden as part of the Hamilton Arts Festival for several years.
He also explained the origins of his company's intriguing name, related to an escape room project he set up before such things became all the rage.
After all, Hamilton is the city of the future.
