Being the 2025 New Zealand Assistant Conductor-in-Residence is a great gig for Reuben Brown, but it will involve a lot of travelling.
The residency is really three residencies in one, with the Auckland Philharmonia, the Christchurch Symphony and the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra.
Brown spoke with RNZ Concert's Bryan Crump from Queenstown where he's taking part in the Whakatipu Music Festival (as if he wasn't already busy enough).
He told Crump about the work involved in being an assistant conductor, and what he hopes to learn from the residency over the coming year.
