Scottish conductor Paul MacAlindin has written a book about creating a National Youth Orchestra in Iraq, in 2007 right after the end of the war. Upbeat describes his journey pulling together a diverse orchestra of young traumatised people who had a desperate desire to learn to play despite the tension in their lives.
