Dunedin composer Associate Prof Anthony Ritchie has been promoted to the rank of Professor at the University of Otago … one of very few composers to have that title in New Zealand.

Tonight he gives his first Professorial lecture titled 'Composing music: but is it research?'.
Professor Ritchie has been a lecturer at the University in the department of music, theatre and performing arts since 2001.
He has composed nearly 200 pieces during a career that includes a decade of freelance composing and moved to Dunedin to become Mozart Fellow in 1988-89.
Eva Radich spoke to Anthony Ritchie about becoming a Professor and asked if it was something he ever imagined for himself.
