Everyone is Marie Kondo-ing their homes (and in RNZ Concert’s case, the office).
The tidying craze came about a couple of years ago after Marie Kondo published the book The Japanese Art of Tidying Up.
Earlier this month it made a resurgence following the release of a Netflix series about the art form.
In it, she encourages people to ask if something “sparks joy”. If it does then it’s worth keeping.
Here’s a playlist that will either spark joy or get you in the perfect mood to clean.
RIMSKY-KORSAKOV: Flight of the Bumblebee
For a very quick tidy up, you can’t go wrong with a bit of Lang Lang
MENDELSSOHN: Symphony No 4, Italian
For something a bit invigorating, try this recording from the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra from March 2018.
DUKAS: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
Create cleaning magic with the piece made famous by Mickey
COATES: London Suite
Recommended by a listener, this piece was extremely popular when it was first published in 1933. It conjures images of people being busy in London.
BACH: Brandenburg Concertos
If you are after something to get you in the mood for a deep clean, this collection of Baroque compositions, which spans more than 90 minutes, is perfect.
