Live out a fantasy this Valentine's Day

The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra with violinist Anthony Marwood offer up a romantic score to this Valentine's Day.

In the APO's Fantasy - the opening concert of 2019 season - romantic music storytelling from Wagner, Adès and Berlioz features.

British violinist Anthony Marwood will perform Adès' Violin Concerto Concentric Paths, which was composed for Marwood in 2005.

It will be accompanied by Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique which tells the story of a failed love affair.

In fact, the symphony depicts the composer's own beheading and concludes with his beloved appearing as the bride of the Devil. It's been described as bizarre, deliriously romantic, and irresistibly exciting.

Anthony Marwood spoke to David Morriss about the creation of Adès' concerto, why he enjoys playing chamber music and how to get inside the spirit of the music.
