Tonight’s Auckland Philharmonia concert features Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, for violin, piano and cello.
The soloists are Tianwa Yang, Nicholas Rimmer and Gabriel Schwabe.
Tianwa Yang was born in China, but is now resident in Germany.
She’s a Professor of Violin at the University of Music Wuerzburg, Germany and the University of the Arts Bern, Switzerland.
But it’s as a vibrant performer that she’s captured attention, with one critic declaring that she’s “the most important violinist to come on the scene in many a year”.
Pianist Nicholas Rimmer was born in the UK, and tends to focus his attentions mostly on chamber music and song repertoire.
He’s based in Germany, too, with teaching positions at the Hanover and Frankfurt Music Conservatories.
David Morriss speaks to them about the concerto and being in New Zealand.
