This year, organist Michael Stewart is performing Charles Tournemire’s magnum opus L’Orgue Mystique, a cycle of 51 offices (services) for the entire liturgical year. In each piece Tournemire presents the Gregorian chant proper to the day in a style that bridges the gap between César Franck and Olivier Messiaen.
The concerts are part of the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul's regular lunchtime concert series on Fridays at 12.45pm.
Michael talks with David Morriss about Tournemire and his music, and why performing L’Orgue Mystique is "like playing Twister by yourself"!
The next L'Orgue Mystique concert is on Friday 13 March, Wellington Cathedral of St Paul, 12.45pm
