Tonight the Auckland Philharmonia is giving the world premiere performance of a major new work by leading Canadian composer Gary Kulesha – an oboe concerto written especially for the APO and principal oboist Bede Hanley.
Gary Kulesha studied with John McCabe in the UK and John Corigliano in New York. He’s renowned not only as a composer, but also as a teacher and long-standing Composer Advisor to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
Bede Hanley is the APO’s principal oboe – he’s originally from Canada, is formerly principal oboe with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Galicia Symphony Orchestra in Spain.
You can hear the concert broadcast live on RNZ Concert and streamed on our website.
