Reuben de Lautour is a composer, sound artist, pianist and theorist.

Senior Lecturer and Head of New Music at the University of Canterbury, Reuben was formerly at Istanbul Technical University's Center for Advanced Studies in Music, where he founded the Program in Sonic Arts in 2012. His research interests include the impact of sound technology on culture – and vice versa.

Reuben de Lautour spoke with Upbeat about the nature of working in abstract electronic sound (and some of its pitfalls), and his new NZTrio commission “An Auscultation of Water”.
