Population growth seen as threat to American Samoa's reef system

In American Samoa, population growth and development pressures are seen as two of the most pressing challenges facing a group trying to protect the Territory's coral reefs.

The Governor's Coral Reef Advisory Group is this week reviewing activities for the protection of the reefs, combat problems preventing their healthy growth and map out a plan for their better management.

The advisory group has listed the lack of consistent immigration policies and the lack of alternatives or incentives for controlling the birth rate as problems impacting on the reefs.
