The Solomon islands police commissioner, William Morrell, says a long-term strategy is needed to address the country's law and order problems.
Mr Morrell says there are no quick fixes.
He says if Australia, New Zealand and other Pacific states can help it would be good, but the idea must be assessed properly
He says it is not realistic to just dump police officers. There must be assistance for them.
Mr Morreell also says he has asked the United Kingdom to provide help for the country's Special Branch and Criminal Investigation Department.
