Scientists still monitoring Vanuatu's Mount Manaro

The manager of the Vanuatu Geological and Hazards department Esline Garae says activity on Mount Manaro on Ambae has eased, but it's still at a level where it's not safe to give the residents the all clear.

Three thousand residents were relocated to 15 centres on the coastal fringe of Ambae when the volcano began erupting last month

Ms Garae says they will continue to watch Mt Manaro over the next five days.

"We still remain on level two the activity for the manifestation and not so high as last week, we still remain on level two and the monitoring of the volcano still continuing"

Ms Garae says volcano activity needs to drop to level one before an all clear is given.
