The Grand Coalition of indigenous Fijian political parties says it is open to sharing preferences with predominantly Indian parties in this year's general election.
The chairman of the Grand Coalition and 1997 Constitution commissioner, Tomasi Vakatora, has told the Fiji Times that contrary to reports, the coalition is not a racist body.
Mr Vakatora says it is willing to enter into a partnership with the Fiji Labour Party or the National Federation Party provided they sign a deed to follow the Grand Coalition's code of conduct.
But senior Labour Party MP, Krishna Datt, says his party would approach political parties to seek to share preferences but NOT Mr Qarase's SDL.
The Grand Coalition includes the ruling SDL, its coalition partner the pro-coup Conservative Alliance Matanitu Vanua, the Fijian Nationalist Party and the Fijian Political Party, the SVT.
Coalition members have already agreed to share preferences with one another.
