Former American Samoa senator proposed as new Police Commissioner

American Samoa's governor, Togiola Tulafono, has appointed a former senator, Tuaolo Fruean, as the new Police Commissioner, a post subject to Fono confirmation.

Mr Fruean served two, four-year terms in the Senate from 2001 to the end 2008.

Prior to joining the Senate, he was a judge with the High Court for several years.

Mr Fruean's nomination will soon be sent to the Fono for confirmation hearing.
