August visitor arrivals to the Northern Mariana Islands posted a 9-percent increase compared to August 2008.
The positive turn is credited in part to high travel demand during the summer months.
The primary market of Japan, which makes up 55 percent of arrivals so far this year, posted an 11 percent increase.
Bolstered by reinstated direct charter flights from Shanghai and Guangzhou, arrivals from mainland China jumped 80 percent.
Losses were seen in August from the United States and the Philippines.
