The Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Dr Derek Sikua, says disputes, violence and corruption are the reason little progress has been made in 31 years of independence.
He says another hindrance is the bad management of the country's finances.
Dr Sikua says in the period since independence was gained there has been little change in many villages.
He says to develop the country needs to weed out disputes, violence, corruption, and maladministration.
Earlier the Prime Minister had told Solomon Islanders that they need to do more to help themselves.
Dr Sikua says while Government can provide basic services the people need to take the opportunities to earn livelihoods for themselves, their families and communities.
