Public schools in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas have handed over a US$6,000 to help tsunami affected schoolchildren in American Samoa.
The cheque was presented to Gary Sword, project coordinator for the CNMI Tsunami Drive for American Samoa.
The money will be used to buy school supplies and to rebuild school buildings.
According to Mr Sword, the total value of all cash and other donations now amount to US$100,000 .
Containers will be sent to American Samoa today and cash will be sent through Bank of Guam.
Mr Sword says they are coordinating with the American Samoa Rotary Club to distribute the donations.
He says five schools in American Samoa were totally washed out by the tsunami on September 29 .
