Forum wants review of ICT spread in region

The Pacific Islands Forum is commissioning a review of the spread and use of information and communication technology in the Pacific.

Five years after leaders laid out a regional digital strategy, the inter-government agency wants to assess progress being made in boosting the prevalence and use of computers, mobile phone networks and other ICTs.

The Forum's secretary-general, Tuiloma Neroni Slade, says considerable progress has been made, but a review will indicate where more work is needed.

He says the review will consist of an assessment of the current state of ICT capacity and usage in the Forum Island countries, and its recommendations will be used to update the Regional Digital Strategy, with the aim of further boosting ICT use.

The regional digital strategy is a cornerstone of the Forum's much vaunted Pacific Plan.
