Six people jailed for defrauding Fiji resort

A Fiji High Court judge Justice Paul Madigan has sentenced six people accused of fraudulently obtaining 468,000 US dollars from a resort in the Yasawas between 2006 and 2007.

Fiji Live reports that Anand Prasad, Reenal Praneel Chandra, Reenal Rajneil Chandra, Deo Singh and Shirley Chand were jailed for between two to six years by the Lautoka High Court, while the sixth person Atishma Singh got a suspended two-year sentence.

They were convicted of conspiracy to defraud Turtle Island Resort.

The first accused, Anand Prasad, was convicted of forging the signature of Richard Evanson, the resort owner, on a total of 84 cheques, which was spent on land and luxury vehicles.
