The Port Authority's General Manager Elon Betham says its an effort to boost confidence in the business sector and accommodate further growth in tourism.
The Asau Harbor entrance has been widened by 12 meters, and 10 new channel markers and lights have been installed.
Betham says these measures will also improve the efficiency and safety of all users of the Port.
The Samoa Observer newspaper reports, that resort owners at nearby Le Auga and La Vai Moana have commented favourably on the improvements and local fishermen have also welcomed the channel markers.
