Hawaiian Airlines adds to fleet

Hawaiian Airlines has welcomed its fifth new aircraft to its fleet, with its inaugural flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu.

The airline's new Airbus A330-200 has been named Hokupaa, or the North Star in Hawaiian, in tribute to the star's significance for celestial navigation by ancient Polynesians during their voyages to Hawaii.

Since June last year, the airline has made a transition to a new fleet of long-range aircraft that can fly farther and carry more passengers to prospective routes to Asia and North America.

Hawaiian Airlines is scheduled to add four more aeroplanes to its fleet next year and will have 13 of the Airbuses in its fleet by the end of 2015.
