A longtime Cook Islands MP, Norman George, is making a bid for the leadership of the opposition Democratic Party.
A year ago Mr George quit the governing Cook Islands Party after it refused him a Cabinet seat.
He then became an independent but has now announced he has re-joined the Democrats.
Mr George was sacked from the Democrats eight years ago amid accusations he was a divisive element.
Now he says he wants to feature in the Democratic Party leadership structure given that the opposition leader, Robert Wigmore, is on extended medical leave.
