The American Samoa chief election officer Velega Savali Junior has resigned from the post which he was appointed to early this year.
Velega told Samoa News he resigned due to the slow pace of work, and he also wasn't feeling challenged given that the elections are held every two years for the House of Representatives and Congress, while the main election is held every four years.
Velega is a former senator and former government treasurer.
The governor will soon appointe a new chief election officer, who is subject to Legislative approval.
