A former Attorney-General of Tonga, John Cauchi, is taking the Tongan government to court over his departure from office three years ago.
Matangi Tonga reports Mr Cauchi has filed three causes of action against the government in the Nuku'alofa Supreme Court over employment contract issues.
The website reports he is claiming about 480,000 US dollars in damages and relief for breach of contract, repudiation of contract and constructive dismissal.
Mr Cauchi was Tonga's first independent Attorney General and was appointed in May 2009 for a period of three years but he announced his resignation in April a year later.
At the time he cited interference by the government in the judiciary.
Matangi Tonga reports the matter has been adjourned until June the 28th.
