French Polynesia top job opening for disgraced minister

8:39 pm on 20 November 2013

French Polynesia's president, Gaston Flosse, says the former transport minister, Bruno Marty, is being chosen to run a mixed-ownership public works agency after he resigned last week.

Mr Marty, who was in charge of road safety, quit as minister after crashing his car while he was almost five times over the legal alcohol limit.

Last week, he also lost his driver's licence after it became public that he had three drink drive convictions.

Mr Flosse has told the news site Tahiti-Infos that it is fortuitous that there is this agency vacancy for Mr Marty.

He also says unfortunately Mr Marty is not entitled to a further three monthly ministerial salaries because his departure was the result of a resignation.
