Reports from Papua New Guinea say three sets of warrants are out for the arrest of the Prime Minister, Peter O'Neill, the Treasurer Don Polye and the Finance Minister James Marape.
The Post-Courier says the warrants were issued by the Waigani District Court in November on the complaint of a detective senior constable with the National Fraud and Anti Corruption Directorate, Robert Ewail.
To reinforce the earlier warrant, senior constable Ewail has taken out another order from the same court in December, this one restraining his superiors and the Royal PNG Constabulary top brass, including the Police Commissioner from issuing formal, informal, written or verbal directives to prevent, delay or frustrate the execution of the warrant for arrest of the trio.
Mr O'Neill has told the Post Courier he is not afraid of the court orders.
But he says the manner in which they were obtained without following due process and the protocol that must be accorded to the highest political office in the country, and the fact that the named police constable, who is not in charge of the case, is suspicious and smells of political interference.
The opposition leader Belden Namah has given the Police Commissioner Tom Kulunga a 72-hour ultimatum to execute the warrant to arrest Mr O'Neill or face contempt of court.
