The UN Secretary-General has welcomed the peaceful conduct of last week's parliamentary elections in Fiji.
In a statement, Ban Ki-moon has commended the people of Fiji for exercising their constitutional right to vote.
Mr Ban says he hopes this election will mark an important step forward for the country's transition to democracy.
The United Nations has also reiterated its readiness to work with the new elected authorities and the people of Fiji.
The military-backed FijiFirst party won 32 of the 50 seats in the first election since the 2006 coup.
