In Solomon Islands, landowners on Vanikoro, Temotu province, have appealed to the national government to suspend a logging operation on the island, claiming overwhelming damages to the environment.
A spokesman for landowners, who asked not to be named for fear of job loss, told the Solomon Star it was sad to see the damage the logging operation has caused to the island.
He urged the new Temotu Province executive to re-impose the logging ban in the province.
He also called on the national government to seriously consider suspending the license of the company, Jayer Berya Limited.
The spokesman said the landowners are victims of an irresponsible decision by the Temotu provincial executive, and that Vanikoro is a small island and doesn't need a logging.
