A major beach clean up along the Honiara shoreline will kick off celebrations to mark this year's World Environment Day in Solomon Islands.
The theme for this year's celebration is "Seven Billion Dreams - One Planet - Consume with Care" and encourages the sustainable use of scarce resources.
The Ministry of Environment says people's livelihoods depend on the conservation of natural resources, and the country's unique plants, birds and reptiles must be protected.
It is appealing to the public to avoid disposing rubbish at undesignated areas, which causes the pollution of beaches and reefs, affecting marine ecosystems and food for many families.
This week, Solomon Islands will also mark World Oceans Day and Coral Triangle Day.
