The suspended MP Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu has been elected as the new president of Fiji's opposition Sodelpa Party.
The party's general secretary, Pio Tabaiwalu, says Ratu Naiqama won a vote at the party's AGM on Saturday, and will replace Ratu Silivenuse Waqausa, who recently resigned.
Fiji TV reports the new president will begin work on preparing the party's strategy and campaign for the next elections in 2018.
Ratu Naiqama was in May suspended from parliament for two years over slurs he made against the speaker during a constituency meeting, which prompted an opposition boycott.
