The Marshall Islands ship registering business has expanded to open a 27th branch in the Philippines.
The Marshalls registry is one of the main providers of a flag of convenience.
The International Registries, which provides administrative and technical support to the Marshalls, says opening an office in Manila is a natural fit for the registry.
It says this is because more than 35 percent of seafarers serving on RMI-flagged vessels hail from the Philippines.
The new office is staffed by four personnel and will be headed by Leo Bolivar.
The opening of the new office is viewed as a strategic move in facilitating documentation needs of operators in the area.
