Papua New Guinea's Commissioner of Police Gari Baki has told his officers to perform their duties without fear and favour, malice or ill-will.
He says he's issued the directive after a number of recent cases where the force's impartiality has been compromised.
He says officers should refrain from taking sides in civil cases in the country.
The police chief has also urged people to stop inducing police officers.
In May he announced major changes to the force saying it was ill disciplined and unable to perform its duties.
At that time he said he would have no hesitation in sacking up to half of the 6-thousand strong force to deal with abusive and corrupt behaviour.
