New Kiribati USP campus opens today

9:53 am on 3 November 2015

The University of the South Pacific's new Kiribati Campus is to be opened today by the President, Anote Tong.

The building work, supported by the Asian Development Bank through a loan of $US3.6 million, started last year.

The university, which already caters for 3000 students, will be augmented with a number of teaching facilities and study space.

There will also be a book shop, a video-conference room, an Atoll Research Centre, offices for the College of Foundation Studies and student and staff services.

When the campus opened in 1979 it had just one room attached to the government-run King George V School.
