The Kiribati High Court has sentenced a French national to 22 months in jail and fined him more than US$3,157 dollars.
59-year-old Lyderic Morlier was charged with planting cannabis, drug trafficking and living on an uninhabited island in Kiribati without permits.
He has also been sentenced on an earlier charge of violating the country's sovereignty.
Both sentences will be served concurrently.
He had been removed from Millennium Island in April where he had allegedly been since November last year.
