Tribal fighting near Tari in Hela Province in Papua New Guinea has claimed three lives and there are calls for the national government to step in.
The Post Courier reports there is mounting fear and anxiety among locals and public servants about the increasing lawlessness.
The Hela provincial hospital chief executive officer, Dr Hamiya Hewali, has expressed concern at the safety and well-being of the public servants and villagers after a fight erupted on Monday at Kikita No 2 village.
He says the Kikita fight has claimed three lives while the township is also surrounded by unresolved tribal disputes that claimed lives earlier this year.
