Guam's governor, Eddie Calvo, has endorsed Senator Ted Cruz's campaign for the United States presidency, becoming the first sitting governor to do so.

Mr Cruz is one of the frontrunners for the Republican Party's nomination to contest this year's election, which will be decided at the party's national convention in July.
As an unincorporated territory, Guam's residents are unable to vote for the presidency, but the island's Republican Party can send nine delegates to vote at the national convention.
The Pacific Daily News reports that Mr Calvo, a Republican, said the two shared many views on foreign and fiscal policy, and that Mr Cruz was listening to voters in Guam like no other candidate.
Many of the Republican nominees have sent representatives to the Pacific territories in recent months.
