Three men in their 20s in New Caledonia have been jailed for up to eight years for injuring two police officers with a firearm in January.
The criminal court in Noumea sentenced two of the accused to eight years and one to five years in prison.
Two months ago, the policemen came under attack when they arrived in a remote east coast town trying to recover cars that had been stolen in Noumea.
Their armoured vehicle was initially repelled when rocks were thrown at it.
When the officers returned, the vehicle was shot at with a firearm and a bullet pierced the armour and injured two of them.
Three week ago, a man was jailed for ten years for firing at police last year.
Attacks on police in New Caledonia have become more frequent, with figures showing 35 officers were injured last year.
