Australia's opposition Greens have called on the prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, to offer a woman, allegedly raped on Nauru while suffering an epileptic seizure, safe passage to Australia for a termination.
The raped woman was a refugee in Australia's care in Nauru.
Abortion in Nauru is illegal and the Australian authorities flew her to Papua New Guinea where a legal abortion is only possible within narrowly defined terms.
The Greens say the brutality and institutionalised abuse on Nauru must stop.
However, Nauru has said it has developed a robust processing system for those seeking asylum and a vibrant refugee settlement programme.
Access to Nauru is heavily restricted, with media representatives required to pay $US5000 as a non-refundable visa application fee.
