The Lautoka High Court Judge Justice Aruna Aluthge has ruled that there is a case to answer in relation to the rape of Vilikesa Soko who died of his injuries two years ago.

Fijivillage reports that the state produced 23 witnesses during the trial following which the defence counsel filed the no case to answer application.

It says the nine suspects have also decided not to take the stand.

Manasa Talala, Seruvi Caqusau, Kelevi Sewatu, Penaia Drauna, Filise Vere, Viliame Vereivalu, Jona Davonu, Pita Matairavula and Senitiki Natakasavu have been charged with one count of rape.

Mr Talala and Mr Vereivalu are also charged with defeating the course of justice by instructing other police officers to make false statements.
