Early results from Tuesday's general election in Palau have Senator Surangel Whipps Jr. leading in the presidential race.
PACNEWS reports that he has 1,832 votes so far compared with the incumbent Tommy Remengesau Jr. who has 1,667 votes.
The two men are brothers-in-law.
About 16,000 Palauans had registered to vote in the elections, which will also install a new congress.
