American Samoa's Western District Governor Lualemaga Faoa has died in the territory's LBJ Hospital after a sudden illness.
Lualemaga, who was a paramount chief from the village of Aasu, worked in all branches of the American Samoan government but was perhaps most well known as chairman of the Senate Select Investigative Committee.
Lualemaga was an associate judge of the High Court, served a few terms as senator and was a special assistant to two governors Tauese Sunia and Aifili Paulo Lutali.
He was just starting his second term as the governor of Western District Governor under the Lolo Lemanu Government.
Our correspondent in Pago Pago said it was a feat for him to gain a second term because it was widely known he did not support the administration in the last elections.
He exposed several cases of corruption in government during his time as chairman of the Senate Select Investigative Committee.
