American Samoa's acting director of commerce says poor internet infrastructure has cost the territory jobs.
Keniseli Lafaele told the Chamber of Commerce in a presentation about the administration's economic development plans that efforts to improve economic connectivity had not tranlated to IT jobs.
He says an India-based data company had come close to setting up in Pago Pago a year ago, but cost proved to be too high a hurdle.
Mr Lafaele says internet rates in the territory are too high, but if that can be addressed, the IT industry could be a gamechanger for the country's struggling economy.
