Papua New Guinea's National Fisheries Authority has confirmed that a PNG fisheries observer has been lost overboard near Nauru.

Loop PNG reported James Junior Numbaru was serving as an observer on the Chinese-flagged purse seiner Feng Xiang No. 818.
Pacific Guardians reported the vessel was drifting in relatively calm Nauru waters when Mr Numbaru was reported missing around 2am on Wednesday last week.
When the ship docked in Nauru the local police investigated and found there was no foul play involved.
